I really enjoyed how the author kept the spirit of the Post World World II Era and at the same time gave an insight into the mind of a woman of those times. I'm glad that things changed and women are not kept to the previously defined roles.

When Angelo Mancini comes home from WWII with head injuries, his wife's parents threaten to swoop in and snatch away his motherless son. Angelo and his indomitable sister, Sophia, have just a few days to come up with a business plan that will show them to be solvent and responsible guardians. So what do they decide? Why, to open a private detective agency, of course! Lucky for them (and us) a local ne'er-do-well gets himself conveniently bumped off, sending Sophia and Angelo haring off on the trail of a nefarious killer.

Add in a mob boss, a temperamental chef, and a muscle man with a heart of gold, and you get a rich canvas full of lovable characters who will be a delight to meet again in future installments. Best of all, "From Mangia to Murder" has an interesting and well-constructed mystery plot that kept me engaged and guessing right up to the end.
I truly enjoyed this book more than most of the mysteries I've read for the past several months. Since the setting is the immediate post-WW II era, the detection was unhampered by any long-winded explanations of forensics. The characters were well-developed, definitely three-dimensional, and (in a few cases) quite surprising! Some were quite eccentric, and others quite "everyday", but all were intriguing. I look forward to more books by this author.
Mangia to Murder is a quick little read with enjoyable characters. I was disappointed not to find a follow-up book. This is a post-WWII novel set in Little Italy, New York City. It depicts the problems that affected a lot of families after the war. Men who came back not quite the same. And women who worked meaningful jobs outside the home during the war but were eliminated from their positions as men returned from the war. There were lots of Italian family scenarios that were very relatable & humorous.
Light reading Murder mystery with lots of references to typical north eastern Italian families and neighborhoods. Not a deep detective mystery and not gory murders. Stereotype Italian gangsta characters, three generations of Italian family living and caring for each other, not as much references to Foods as I’d hoped the title suggested. If you are a fan of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum novels, this could be the start of another favorite series.
This is a frothy little bit of entertainment. Characters and plot are not deep or complex. It did keep me involved till the end but I found the repeated grammatical errors extremely distracting. If you are a writer and you don’t have a good command of grammar, for heaven’s sake get a proofreader who can make corrections for you before you publish! I would not recommend this book to anyone who has much in the way of linguistic or literary standards.
While I enjoyed this romp through the 1940s, I'll have to agree with another reviewer who said the story setting would be difficult for a younger generation. The characters are fun and the author plays with stereotypes by giving the character something that works against that image. My only issue with the book is several formatting issues and one point when a section seemed to be missing. Unfortunately, these detracted enough from my reading pleasure that I'm going to have to deduct a star because of it. I have an older version, so hopefully these problems have been fixed because it's a really fun read!
Set right after WWII in Little Italy I found this to be a cute little story of a family looking for a way to retain custody of the little boy they all love, leading to trying to solve a murder committed at the dinner celebrating the opening of the detective agency opened as a way to provide for the family. This story has many great aspects; a war hero suffering from a war related mental condition, a brother & sister detective agency where the sister has a predilection for trouble, a neighborhood mobster & his henchmen, blackmail, your typical Italian family neighborhood. Very interesting characters and unexpected ending.
