You don't have to be Karl Marx to wonder why most of England's best farmland seems to be owned by a handful of nouveaux millionaires and the thriving aristocracy, nor to question how the bass player in a 90's pop band managed to earn enough money to buy a hundred room farmhouse on two hundred acres of gorgeous countryside in a country where few can dream of moving into a detached house. This said, I very much enjoyed Alex James' lighthearted account of his ludicrously privileged life in the Cotswolds and he succeeded in sparking interest in subjects I previously had absolutely no curiosity about...like punting and dung heaps.
Awesome description of the life of one of my personal heroes, Alex James the bass player for Blur. Must read with a nice selection of cheeses.
oh god it's SOOOOO GOOD. And I was sent (by accident, I think) a signed copy! I'm taking this as a sign. The gods of hanginaround were like "Here, sorry about Blur skipping Chicago on their Magic Whip tour. Can we be friends again?"

Witty and wise. Alex James has a lovely way with words. Who knew a sexy bassist would turn into a cheese maker.
I have rarely read any author with the descriptive talent of this man. Every vista he discribed was instantly viewed by me inside my head. His humor was refreshing. His family, surprisingly normal. It's rare to find such wonderfully expressed views from someone we associate with the up and down world of stardom. I hope he ventures into the literrary world again.
I loved the first book, and couldn't wait for this one to come out in the US on edition. This book picks up where the previous one left off and it is a delight to read. For all of his antics in the first book this one shows a more calm, very much at peace with his life Alex. I couldn't recommend it more highly.
I don't think Karl Marx would have objected to Alex James' candid account of his privileged life in the English countryside. At one point, half the village is living rent-free on his estate! I smiled from beginning to end of this euphoric collection of impressions, musings, and anecdotes by the most jubilant bon vivant of my generation-my opinion only slightly tainted by my love of Blur. See you soon in Mexico City and keep on writing Alex James!
